About
BUILT BY A NAVIGATOR
Analog on purpose. Modern navigation made people dependent on electronics. EmNav NAVIGATOR teaches the layer underneath them.
Designed by a retired U.S. Army Green Beret and lifelong land-navigation instructor.
Made in the USA. Small family shop.
NAVIGATOR began as a personal field tool, not a product. The work started as a circular slide rule that could also be used as a sun compass, and became a line for people who refuse to rely on batteries and satellites.
GPS is extraordinary until the battery dies, the signal is jammed, or you are in a canyon. A magnetic needle is honest until vehicle steel, a rifle, iron-bearing rock, or a solar storm pulls it off north. EmNav sits underneath both: a sun compass, a circular calculator, a clinometer, and a noon-sun latitude method. It is a backup that works when the primary does not, and a training aid that teaches you to improvise the same geometry from natural materials.
Who it is for
- Land navigation enthusiasts
- Preppers who want a navigation backup that does not depend on GPS, batteries, or a firmware update
- SERE instructors and military navigators
- Hikers, overlanders, and sailors who already carry a compass and want a backup method
- Anyone who wants to travel by the Sun and not by electrons
Teach the method, not the gadget.
How they are made
Disks are cut and engraved on a diode laser in small batches when you order. Tick positions are generated from the actual math; logarithmic C/D, 15°/hour clock, deliberate-offset trigonometry, slope factor; not traced from a photograph of someone else’s rule. The NAVIGATOR is the land instrument that ships today. EVASION, NAUTICAL, and the BREES emergency sextant are from the same shop, coming next. Hardware is simple on purpose: a screw, an eyelet, a couple of holes, two index arms. Spare parts in the envelope.
What this is not
EmNav is not certified marine, aviation, survey, or SAR equipment. It is not a substitute for a current nautical almanac, a rated sextant, an accurate compass or a practiced navigator. Instructions are educational. Results can be wrong by a margin that matters. Cross-check. See the Legal page.
Made to order.
